Brown V Board Mural

Topeka is home to one of the cornerstone cases in the civil rights movement, Brown v. Board of Education. This landmark case went to the Supreme Court in 1954 wherein the court ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional.

In 2018, artist Michael Toombs, a team of advocates at ARTSConnect, and a massive contingency of community leaders and artists, completed the 130’ long by 30’ mural in the never ending, Kansas heat.

A truly heart-warming celebration was held in August of 2018 to unveil the completed mural. Numerous speakers championed the message of hope and unification throughout the process of creating the mural and it stands proudly today, across the street from the site of Brown v. Board Historical Site at 1515 SE Monroe St, Topeka, KS 66612.
