To celebrate Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week, we want to highlight the work our IT team at Azura does daily and how each one contributes to the safety of our credit union and members. Thomas, a desktop support technician, has many responsibilities at Azura. From tending to individual computers to managing complex backend systems, he ensures that the gears of Azura continue to run smoothly.
Despite the stereotypes about why people go into IT, Thomas enjoys the human element of his position.
"Working with people, getting to know them, and understanding how everyone does their job so that I can do mine in a way that helps support everyone else," he said.
With these connections in mind, protecting the credit union and its members is paramount.
"Be aware and point out things that don't look right," Thomas said. "Asking, 'Is this supposed to be happening?' can help users fight cybercrimes. Awareness is key."
Thomas's statement reminds us that constant vigilance is our best weapon in the battle against digital threats. He also wants members and employees to know that the first line of defense in staying safe online is to use a passphrase, or semi-complete sentence, to secure your online accounts.
For those considering a career in cybersecurity, he stresses the importance of customer service skills. "If you can learn and communicate with people, there are a ton of jobs out there for you in IT."
The work of our IT team is essential in ensuring the safety of our credit union and its members. Thomas's contributions as a desktop support technician demonstrate the importance of human connections and the need for constant vigilance against digital threats. We can help protect ourselves and our community from cybercrimes by working together and staying informed.
