A Day of Giving 

International Credit Union Day starts bright and early with the Topeka Credit Union Foundation (TCUF) Benefactor's Breakfast. This year ten local organizations received $36,374 in gifts from TCUF. 

The local organizations who received gifts today include: Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, Housing & Credit Counseling, Junior Achievement of Kansas, Midland Care Connection and Meals on Wheels, TARC, Topeka Habitat for Humanity, Topeka Rescue Mission, Valeo Behavioral Health Care, and YWCA of Northeast Kansas.

The Topeka Credit Union Foundation was formed in 2004 by six local credit unions to support organizations conducting philanthropic or charitable purposes for the greater good of our communities. Today, the Foundation is supported by Envista Credit Union, Azura Credit Union, Kansas Blue Cross Blue Shield Credit Union, and Mid American Credit Union. With this year’s grants, the Topeka Credit Union Foundation has contributed $351,322 to numerous organizations primarily in the Topeka community.

Details regarding how much each organization has received from the Topeka Credit Union Foundation and how they are using the funds are provided below.

 

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka ($1,820.00) – Funding to purchase reusable water bottles for all the youth members who attend Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka.
  • Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas ($4,000.00) – Funding for their 12-month financial education program and a payday/title loan refinancing program that reduces high interest loans and works to move clients from poverty to strength and stability.
  • Housing & Credit Counseling, Inc. ($4,000)  Funding for an interactive social media marketing campaign titled "Tame Your Debt Monster" to raise awareness of free financial counseling services at HCCI, help people see how they can budget consistently and establish a personal Next Steps Action Plan to be financially self-sufficient.
  • Junior Achievement of Kansas ($5,000) – Funding to support the Personal Finance Symposium for high school students, purchase of Be Entrepreneurial kits for classes and the “Topeka & Shawnee Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge.
  • Midland Care Connection, Inc. ($5,000) – Funding to support the Meals on Wheels “Adopt-a-Route” meal delivery service that delivers five meals a week to an individual for three months. One route consists of 10 individuals. Three months will be 650 meals over 65 days to 10 individuals.
  • TARC, Inc. ($600) – Funding to purchase one touch screen computer to be utilized by the employment team to assist in building resumes, taking online assessments, job search and applications.     
  • Topeka Habitat for Humanity ($5,000) – Funding for the Aging in Place holistic home repair program that engages multiple community partners and provides products and services that foster the health and well-being of our aging population.
  • Topeka Rescue Mission Ministries ($5,000) – Funding to purchase supplies for Street Reach & Mobile Access Program (MAP), which bring mobile bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, a mobilize health & food pantry and kitchen to those living on the streets to different areas across Topeka. 
  • Valeo Behavioral Health Care, Inc. ($4,954) – Funding to support their Mobile Access Partnership to help meet the needs of the unsheltered in the community and to provide critical support for homeless individuals during the winter months. 
  • YWCA of Northeast Kansas. ($1,000) – Funding to support their racial justice training, including the purchase of training materials, books and Girl Scout badges.
