Shawnee Heights Joins Community Impact Program

By Azura Credit Union

Every penny counts—or, in this case, every nickel—which is something Azura Credit Union recognizes as a financial institution. It’s also something we encourage with our Community Impact Card.

2021 Shawnee Heights Postcard updated

The Community Impact Card is a feature available with all Azura checking accounts free of charge. When an Azura member selects their debit card, they can elect to have their card be a Community Impact Card and choose one of the participating charitable organizations as the beneficiary. After that, each time the member uses their card, Azura Credit Union donates 5 cents to the associated organization. Learn more about the program now.

“This program provides Azurans with the opportunity to select an organization close to their heart, with donation dollars coming from Azura, resulting in an easy win for the community,” said Katie Beach, community development manager at Azura Credit Union.

The newest feature of the 15-year card program is the Shawnee Heights Community Impact Card, which benefits the USD 450 Shawnee Heights School District. The school district was selected through a committee process, which selects organizations that align with Azura’s key areas of focus: education, innovation and community.

The other organizations that benefit from the card program are:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka
  • Topeka Rescue Mission
  • TARC
  • Military Veterans Project
  • Supporting Kids Foundation
  • Stormont Vail Foundation/Children’s Miracle Network
  • Harvesters The Community Food Network.

Each quarter, Azura dispenses the funds from the program to the organizations to use, giving them infusions of funding to use throughout the year based on Azura members’ card usage. View our 2020 donation results here.

“We are excited to team up with Shawnee Heights to help make a difference for teachers and students,” said Beach. “Every time someone makes a purchase with their Shawnee Heights Community Impact card, Azura donates 5 cents to the school district. We are excited to see the impact funds will make within the school district.”

“The Community Impact Card program is one of the ways we give back,” said Beach. “It not only allows us to give funds to our partners, it also gives our membership a voice, which is amazing. Our membership drives our giving by simply selecting a debit card and making every day purchases.”

While Azura members use their cards to give back to the community, the money doesn’t come from members’ personal accounts, but from the Azura parent organization. This gives members a way to give back making purchases they have to, even in times when they may not have much latitude in their personal budgets for planned giving.

“We are thankful for our members continuing to go above and beyond in their participation, because the more our members use their Community Impact Cards, the more we are able to donate,” said Beach.
